Meet Gerald (Jerry) Loomer

I’m Gerald (Jerry) Loomer and I’m running for the Sumter County School Board because I believe every child deserves a strong education and every taxpayer deserves transparency and accountability. As a retired teacher living on a fixed income, I understand firsthand how important it is that our school dollars are spent wisely. Nearly 50% of our property taxes go to education, and I want to ensure those funds truly support our classrooms, teachers and students.

A Lifetime in Education

For 37 years, I taught Chemistry and Physics and had the privilege of mentoring students who competed at local, state, regional, and International science fairs.

I was honored to be named:

✔ South Dakota Teacher of the Year

✔ 1st National Presidential Award for Excellence in Science &
     Mathematics Teaching
✔ Finalist in the Teacher in Space program.

Supporting All Pathways

I am a strong supporter of trade and technical education.  Skilled trades are essential to our community and these career paths deserve the same respect as traditional college degrees.  There are many routes to a successful and fulfilling life.

My Priorities

✔ Responsible Spending that reflects our educational goals.
✔ Higher teacher pay to attract and retain quality educators.
✔ Transparency, with public informaiton easy to access.
✔ Parent involvement, including live streaming School Board meetings.

My faith, my love of country, and my lifelong commitment to public education guide every decision I make.  I want to serve our community with honesty, transparency, and a focus on what truly matters – our students..
